Can I tell you a funny story?

And also share some links to cool stuff

A quick funny story about the Brontë sisters, tuberculosis and Hugh Grant.

Please tell me you get the "not a classic anecdote" reference! That line from Notting Hill echoes in my head every time I tell a story. Like I finish telling the story, immediately feel embarrassed about bothering people with it, and then hear Hugh Grant's voice in my head, "It's not a classic anecdote is it?" (Okay, I actually can't hear people's voices in my head? Or music. Or see pictures. But I can like...feel that line of dialogue in my head, the way that I feel music and pictures. Anyways.)

My journey with hope has been helped thru reading Mariame Kaba. She says “hope is a discipline.” It is helpful to think of Hope as a branch of knowledge I am studying, as a system of rules that govern my conduct. Hope is not an object, it's a process. So Hope is not dependent on circumstance. It helps me meet circumstance.

Internet Phone Book

An annual publication for exploring the vast poetic web, featuring essays, musings and a directory with the personal websites of hundreds of designers, developers, writers, curators, and educators. Published since 2025.

I discovered The Internet Phone Book through Jason Kottke's newsletter. I haven't had time to dig into the project thoroughly. But I can tell you that the instant I saw it I felt so much relief! Like! Oh, we're all going to figure out how to keep making things and connecting with one another. It's going to take time. And it's going to manifest in many different ways. And that's just so great.

love,
Meg
